Dec 4. Christmas Traditions in Scandinavia
This tradition is from Sweden I believe. Apparantly the buck was a person who dressed up and in a good natured way scared the children. Other sources claim that there was a connection to the Devil and others again claim that the buck is a sign of fertility and growth. I don’t know. It wasn’t until recently I learned that the Yule Buck is part of Christmas. I just remember it was a thing that was there every Christmas when I was a small child. The buck was placed beside the aquarium in the livingroom and I think the fish were as confused as I was. The buck is made of straw and straw-ornaments is a part of Christmas too. It’s from old times where it was what you had. It was affordable, easy to work with and you could make some beautiful things out of straw.
Have a great day..
